The Indiana Society of Mayflower Descendants founded and organized April 14, 1916 under the authority of the charter granted by the General Society of Mayflower Descendants on March 21, 1916.
On March 10, 1920 at the request of Laura Fletcher Hodges, the fifth governor of the Indiana Society of Mayflower Descendants, Meredith Nicholson, noted Indiana author, composed the following tribute to the Pilgrims:
It is right and proper for every American to do reverence to that gallant band, for their high courage and indomitable will established for a nation then unborn standards of aspiration and action that have become as light to lighten the world.”
Meredith Nicholson, noted Indiana author
